about us

Psychotherapy Practice De Vesting in Heusden

We, psychotherapist Jolanda Poelakker and psychiatrist Judith Bovendeerd, know each other from previous collaborations. We turned out to have the same dream: a small-scale psychotherapy practice in beautiful Heusden in which customized care and good cooperation are central.

Why psychotherapist, gz-psychologist en psychiatrist in one psychotherapy practice?

Our goal within “De Vesting” is to bring about growth and change in people. We do this in a team with various disciplines (psychiatrist, psychotherapist and gz-psychologist) in which everyone has their own treatment practice. Wherever needed and possible, working closely together is our strength: lines of contact are short and therefor individual expertise can be flexibly put to the use of the client. The psychiatrist, psychotherapist and gz-psychologist each have their own passion and approach matters from that personal angle.

what we do

Below we listed a small number of the possible therapy components at our psychotherapy practice in Heusden:

Individual psychotherapy

With individual psychotherapy we aim for achieving the agreed upon goals, by clarifying and working through the underlying inner powers that gave rise to the problems. In that way symptoms and complains can diminish and alternative behaviour becomes possible. Each therapist works within one or more distinctive therapeutic frameworks and integrates several techniques (derived from e.g. schema therapy, solution-focussed therapy, etcetera), adjusted to what is right and fits best.

Schema-oriented psychotherapy

Schema therapy is a nationally and internationally scientifically proven effective form of psychotherapy for many different problems. It is often used for more long-term complaints, such as personality problems or recurrent depression, recurring problems in intimate relationships, processing stressful memories from childhood, etc.

Schema therapy helps you understand and change the origin of persistent patterns. It is a therapeutic approach that combines elements from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic models, attachment and Gestalt models.

Solution Focused Psychotherapy

Solution-focused therapy is a form of counseling that focuses on utilizing the client’s strengths and resources. Together with the therapist, the client examines which skills he/she already has to tackle his/her problems. Solution-focused therapy is short-term and result-oriented.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy

In psychodynamic therapy we investigate the background and meaning of problems that hinder you in your daily functioning and in your relationships with other people. To understand and change repetitive patterns in your thinking, feelings and behavior, your life history is important and how you function now.

What do the complaints mean?

First, we work on reducing your complaints and problems. In addition, we aim to make hidden feelings and thoughts aware during the treatment, so that you gain insight into the origin of your problems and you are able to process any unpleasant experiences. It’s about people who want to find out why they run into (the same) problems every time in their lives and want to change them.

Client-centered psychotherapy

Client-centered psychotherapy focuses on sustainable personality changes. It is a process of growth and development. This not only effectively combats complaints, but also increases the general standard of living in terms of happiness, meaning and health. Client-centered psychotherapy is person-oriented and not exclusively symptom- or complaint-oriented.

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that teaches you to look at problematic situations differently and deal with them differently. Cognitive behavioral therapy assumes that problems are influenced and maintained by a person’s thoughts and behavior. By investigating, discussing and changing that behavior and thoughts, psychological complaints decrease.

Farmacotherapy

Medication can be an option when confronted with psychological symptoms. The right medication can adjust chemical imbalances in the body and with that diminish symptoms and complaints. The psychiatrist could advise complementary laboratory tests. All of this happens at an easy pace by investing in quality information and ample time for guidance. You remain in charge of your own body and the psychiatrist helps you to make choices by informing you well and investing in good counseling.

Mindfulness (-Based Cognitive Therapy / MBCT)

When plagued by disturbing thoughts or feelings, we often tend to suppress or ignore these. Unfortunately, the disturbance often does not disappears in that way, on the contrary, it most likely will overtake us and will demand our attention time and time again. MBDT is a training method, in with we learn a more accepting attitude toward our thoughts and the feelings we harbour in our heart, mind and body. By training the direction or focus of our attention and by learning to observe with less judgement, we will be freeing up space. Het leed kan hierdoor draagbaarder worden. And more freedom and space when making choices can be developed. MBCT training is possible in a group or individually.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR, is a therapy for people who suffer continuously after a severely shocking experience, such as sexual of physical violence. EMDR was firstly written about more than 25 years ago by the American psychologist Francine Shapiro. In the years thereafter, EMDR was further developed as an effective and complete therapeutic methodology.

Psychiatry lifestyle

Lifestyle factors such as movement, nutrition, sleep, (addictive) substances, purpose and relaxation gain more and more attention, because improving lifestyle is gaining more and more terrain as a serious additional treatment. It is a precious additional field next to the more traditional pharmacological and psychological therapies. Weaving lifestyle interventions realistically into daily life is both a challenge and huge source of strength and inspiration. Just as life itself, it is a true art to steer your way through all that one should or could with the right balance.
